Things We Love About Ghana

Ghana is a very special place. It was the first African nation to gain its independence in 1957. Her people are well known for their friendliness, rich culture and great food. As our way of celebrating with our friends in Ghana we have put together a list of things we love about Ghana :D 

 

Kelewele

 

The Arts Alliance Gallery, Accra

The Artist Alliance Galley is a three story building housing some of the finest art and traditional craft from around Ghana. It is home to several elaborately carved painted coffins , fashioned in  a shape of a fish that Ghana has become famous for.

 

Akosombo Dam

The Akosombo dam is an hydroelectric dam situated on the Volta River in Southeastern Ghana. The construction of the dam lead to the flooding of the Volta River basin which subsequently created Lake Volta. Lake Volta is the largest reservoir by surface area in the world.

The dam provides electricity to Ghana & its neighbouring West African countries, including Togo & Benin.

 

Osu, Accra

Located 3 kilometers east of the central business district Osu is one of the busiest districts in Accra. Its bustling markets and hip night life culture are one of the best in the city. Don't forget to stop over at Frankie's for a bit of ice-cream. You won't regret it!

 

Kente Cloth

Kente cloth is by for the most well know of Ghana's fabrics. At some point it was the royal attire worn by the Asante as well as the Ewe nobility in Ghana.

Here is a famous image of the legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali looking sharp in Kente attire beside Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana on his trip to the country in 1964.

Labadi Beach

Labadi Beach is one the busiest beaches on Ghana's coast. There is always something happen here from music events to people coming together just to relax. The beach is maintained by several local hotels and is really one the most beautiful beaches in Ghana.

 

Golden Tree Chocolate 

No matter how hot it gets in Accra, you can be sure that your bar of Golden Tree Chocolate will allows be firm. The makers of Golden Tree, Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) have been making locally produced chocolate from Ghana since 1965.
